Why do Sarah did a studio photoshoot with her baby?

Black & White Studio Photoshoot with Sarah

with her happy boy, Robert.

Having a family photoshoot done for your family and your child is like investment. You never see the immediate return when you do that. However, for many who choose to invest, they always ended up with more rewards that they get many years down the road.

Just like when you invest your time with your child by educating them one little thing at a time through out their life… while allow them to take risk and make some mistakes, you are there to invest your time, knowledge, wisdom on that little child right from the birth…

With my children, plenty of albums from their family photoshoot are done and numerous pictures are framed to show their grow story, the place they visited, how they have fun with their brothers. It is an investment from us as a parents to remind them of the happy days… It is the content from the family photoshoot that makes the tangible products meaningful. I hope to leave them a collection of our existence while we can.

There is no different for Sarah too.

It is through the B&W Charity Shoot that I met Sarah and Robert.

Like any kids with stranger, Robert was curious, but cautious with me. However, within minutes, you can see the behaviour of a child who is confident and curious with all the little toys in the studio. Love those wheels.

I am a keen observer and I learn to anticipate moment in time so we can capture it for family who trusted us.

Over the course of the 30 minutes shoot, I observe a happy child who love kisses and hug from his mum. The connection is heartwarming and I am in love with the shoot.

In case you are thinking of doing the same as Sarah come and have a chat with us… maybe we can help.

Being in the moment, observing their every moments, every strand of hair, noting their every sound they make….

Hart is like a baby whisperer. He handled my 1week old baby with gentle yet professional hands. We like his photo taking style as well. Excellent skills!

We had a fantastic newborn photography session with Hart. We were rather apprehensive in the beginning and were expecting our little one to fuss and cry for the entire session. But Hart was a true baby whisperer and kept our baby (and the adults!) calm throughout the entire lighthearted session. Hart’s timeless photos of our little one and of our family is something we will cherish for a long time. It’s a shame Hart doesn’t provide babysitting services too!

5 Different Styles of Newborn Photoshoot In Tomato Photo Studio Singapore

These days, there are a myriad different styles of newborn photography in the market. It is simply overwhelming just to scroll through the various style of newborn photoshoots.

The shoot styles range from posed newborn photoshoots (in it includes various styles, from minimal props to heavily propped; from as is photos to digitally enhanced with digital backdrops) versus the ‘unposed’, connection type lifestyle newborn photoshoots.

Whilst we can’t speak for all the styles of newborn photography, we can talk a little bit about the styles we do here at Tomato Photo. And we usually do these 5 styles in one newborn session.

1.  Posed vs Lifestyle: Know Your Expectations

There are essentially two types of newborn photography – posed/studio & lifestyle.  I love both for different reasons.  However, it is important to know what type are envisioning for your shoot.

Perfectly Posed Pics- typically must be done within the first 10 days of birth when the baby is very sleepy and “mold-able”.  The focus in this type of session is on shots of the baby looking perfect, usually in blankets, wraps, hats, & headbands.  Tomato’s signature style of newborn photography envision the newborn to look like in mummy’s tummy and shows only the baby against the dark background, their expressions and their foetal position. Minimal props are used.

2.  Let the Baby Inspire the shoot…

The best images are unplanned and inspired by the uniqueness of each baby.  Whether it is cute dimples, big beautiful eyes, full lips, or a great head of hair, try to highlight the beauty of the baby.

We will work with you as the parents to ensure that we capture those amazing moments and unique features of your baby to ensure your memories last a life time.

At Tomato Photo we believe that this its all about being in the moment.  This means that we give the newborn time and space to  move, yawn, and stretch.  Babies have wonderful, perfect, sweet movements.

3.  Include the Mum, The Family..

Mothers work the hardest and they love the hardest too.  Mum is always behind the camera taking snaps of every adorable moment of your baby.

This is an important opportunity to get in front of the lens and capture those shots that define and outline your love for your newborn.

Get close, cuddle and aw at your little one as the photographer snaps away.  Don’t by shy this is your opportunity to shine too.

Let us know and we can assist you to plan your make up and hair for the shoot as we know that new mums are too busy to worry about such pesky issues.

4.  Include The Siblings

If your newborn has a proud older brother or sister, its a great idea to incorporate them into the shoot.  Its always a good idea to have the older sibling ready to go first.  This means that we can photograph the sibling while they are excited and able to concentrate.

Once we have some great individual shots of the sibling, we then let them go play while we focus the session on the newborn. Toddlers simply don’t have the attention span to sit quietly and wait while the newborn or setup for each shot.

Once we have great shots of the newborn we can bring the toddler back in again towards the end of the shoot for shots of the siblings together.

5.  Enjoy the experience – Connections

A session with your newborn should not be stressful or exhausting, but rather a bonding experience for the family.

We will give you plenty of time and space to feed, change and burp your baby.  A relaxed Mummy means that the baby will be more receptive.  We encourage Mum and Dad to simply take a seat on the sofa and relax while we photograph your newborn in the setting and style that you envision.

Celebrating 10th Year Anniversary.

Through the past 10 years, It is a privilege to be trusted by more than 2200 families big and small ranging from days old newborn baby to centenarian from happy celebration to family that have family member who’s days are numbered.

Charity is part of my life as I have seen my own mother passed away from Motor Neuron Disease and my younger brother from APlastic Anemia. However, donating to charity is always what we do behind the scene as we feel there is no need to publicise this. But I was wrong…

After talking to these charity organisations, I recognize that these charity organisations needed as much public awareness as donation and I hope to do my little part to support them and your help is crucial to the success of this charity drive. So…

Family Photography Session with Cece & Chris

It is always a pleasure to see familiar faces walk through the studio for family photography again.

Through out the conversation, Chris and Cecelia told me that they put their families memories on the very top of their priorities list.

One way to remember how their kids looks like is through photorgraphy as it serve as a record.

We watch our children growing up every second of our life and photograph allow us to “compare” how they look now and a few months or years ago.

When I first met their little princess, she was sitting up and yet to take her first step and Alex was in his “toothless” years.

Of course like any shoots that involve young children, there are a lot of unexpected challenges.

One of the challenge is to ensure children are well rested before the session… but of course, as parents, you know deep down, they will likely not going to sleep and ended up with cranky and restless child during the shoot.

It was exactly the case with Chris and Cece’s family…

This is not unexpected and happen almost all the time in my 10 years of photographing families.

One thing that I am extremely grateful is when Chris and Cece allow me to take time to coax their little daughter while we wait for her to be ready. The shoot was only about 90 minutes and it is long enough for me to get enough shots for them and short enough to enjoy the journey.

Of course, any family who arrived at our studio have high expectation in the images that they wanted to have.

Working with children require a lot of patience and also a lot of know how… different children require different handling… this is the part where is the most exciting for me. I love human interaction in general especially with children.

I love it when the final images show happiness and connection within the family and this time round, I had the pleasure to know Chris’ dad too.

I am sure Cece and Chris was over the moon with the results and Cece wrote this to me after getting all their canvases and album done.

We had a great experience with Hart taking our family portrait, the 3 generations.

Hart is a warm and friendly person. Everyone of us able to be joyful and natural in front of the camera! And this is very important when we talk about taking family portrait

This is our second experience working with Hart and we love his professionalism and passion in his work

Hart is really good at kids even for our non stop 3 year old girl. He was able to capture her, her true self and personality ( we will definitely miss her this moment when she grows up)

Our photos are all so natural! There’s not much of editing and I really love the album!

We will definitely engage his service again!

Cece & Chris

Please enjoy the slideshow below for the session since 2015 with Chris’ family.

I hope you enjoy looking at the images as much as I enjoy shooting their Chris’ family.

If you are thinking of doing one for your family, give us a call for a chat and let’s see if we are a good fit.

Hart Tan
