Studio Newborn Photography with See Mun

I often ask myself, could a photographer create a style that is different from the current style and co-exist? I am not sure… so I created something that is still my style but added more “elements” to it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but hey, I love them…

I really enjoy the whole process, conceptualization, shopping, styling and posing the newborn and somehow make everything fit in nicely. It doesn’t come naturally at first so it takes a while to figure out the details.

Process of booking a photographer always a daunting task and it isn’t always easy. There are a lot in the market but nonetheless, I am giving my client everything I have when they booked me… so this is what my clients has to say:

1/ Biggest fear of booking: Mishandling of baby, misbehaving of elder brother…
Did not happen – Hart was so gentle and patient with baby.. and understanding too despite having to wait while we nurse baby 3x!! Hart was also able to deal with the elder brother.. even tho he tried to disrupt the photo taking session at times.. but Hart managed to turn it around and got the elder brother to do interesting poses with baby instead..

2/ what was the most enjoyable part of the session: seeing how the 2 brothers are posing for the photos together. Heart warming to see that the photos taken captured the pure and true brotherly love…

3/ One of the feedback from a friend (who actually attended one of your teaching sessions!) when i told her i am going for your session is that “wow, Hart’s charges are the most expensive in Singapore!”. I had to agree! But.. to me, these images are priceless.. capture a moment in time which can never be brought back.. so if you can afford it, you should go for it! Time will never turn back – these moments will be gone forever if you miss it… what better than to leave them in images that you will treasure forever!

Mother’s day Children Photography

Mother is a special person in this world.

Someone who carry little life within their body around 40 weeks
Someone who spend hours reading and preparing for the arrival of the little baby
Someone who spend 24/7 working non-stop sacrificing everything they have just for your child(ren)
Someone who always give a shoulder to cry on
Someone who always welcome you with their open arms whoever you are as their children
the list goes on…

Sophie is a smiley little girls that come through our studio for some shots with her mom… I love the spontaneity and free spirit she has… life isn’t always perfect, but everyone have capacity to love and be loved and smile is something free that everyone posses.

Sometimes, I find it amazing about my work as photographer who posses the ability to immortalize those moment in time that bring joy to people who is looking at those images.

I hope you enjoy looking through those beautiful moments between mother and child.

It always made my day when I exceeded my client’s expectation.

It is always interesting to find out more from our client after the session and see what we can improve as well as what we have done right…

Jingwen wrote me an email on her reservation prior to the booking and what they enjoy, here is her words:

1) biggest fear is that the child wouldn’t be cooperative and the photos won’t turn out nicely. But you were really great in setting up rapport with Sophie and needless to say the photos are wonderful.

2) actually I think Sophie and I enjoyed all parts of the session.. cos there’s a good mix of different elements, indoor / outdoor, diff props, water play etc. Most importantly my kid wasn’t bored and enjoyed herself the whole time   🙂

3) it’s what I’m already telling ppl. . You are very expensive but absolutely worth it. Esp if one values pictures that capture the kids as they are, instead of the more commercial photo studios that emphasis multiple outfits and backgrounds / props.

Anyway my husband has already said that in future we will just go to you for family photo shoots.  After looking through the gallery he mentioned there is no need to shop around for photographers / studios.  How’s that for a compliment… 🙂

I can understand my rates are the major deterrence for potential clients to consider my work, however, clients who booked me seems to think the price I charge matches the value that I offer with the quality of the work, experience and solving their fear of kids not being cooperative.

I wrote about how I price my work and the business side of photography previously on this blogpost, so have a read if you have time.

Outdoor Family Portrait Photography at Raffles Hotel, Singapore

It was wet morning, but warm sun came out just before the family photography session really brighten up my day.

I had a chance to photograph this family that I photographed 2-3 years ago at the location where they had their wedding… a beautiful Raffles Hotel.

I take the advantage of the location and did a few location family photography, where I focus not only on the people but the location itself.

After the session, I ask my clients a few questions on what was their biggest fear before booking my session and if those fear actually happen?
Renaud’s biggest fear for the session was that the weather will be bad and the light not good for the outcome of the photo. But he was totally wrong and the photos were all great!! My biggest fear was the kids not corporative enough during the session and we will not have nice photo together. But you were just great with them. Till today, they called you the ‘funny uncle’!

Also, I ask them what they enjoy the most during the shoot:
We really enjoyed the family closeness while taking the family portrait and it shows through the pictures. The kids said they liked the fact that you let them played! I learned a few tricks from how you positioned us for the photos.

Last but not least, their testimonial:
We already recommended you! Every time someone asked who took those nice portraits hanging in our house, we will not hesitate to recommend you.
We always said we love the fact that you could capture us in such a natural pose with the wonderful use of the natural light. The overall effect is so effortless beautiful and timeless.

Family Photography at Emerald Hill, Singapore

I have photographed Mui and Kent’s family since the birth of their first child and have been their preferred photographer for their family.

It is nice to see how the kids grow from a little newborn to little baby to little toddler. Doing photography at any of this stage tend to be unique.

As we all know, children at any ages, they will never cooperate with you and stay still for the photography session. So parent tends to worry about the final output. So it is the same with Mui and Kent.

However, when I show the images to Mui, she was over the moon and here is what she wrote me on email,

Thanks Hart,

We LOVED the pictures!! You have exceeded all our expectations. – Mui Cheng via email

Here is some images I took on the day…

Family Photography with little baby girl

One happy client:

“My husband and I are not big on going for photoshoots. We freeze in front of the camera. But I decided I wanted a newborn shoot this time around with the birth of my second child. She will only be this tiny for such a small window. I showed Yen Pin a few websites for newborn photography and family photography but he wasn’t too big on them; till he saw Tomato Photo’s. He liked what he saw almost immediately and I went ahead and booked a session with Hart.

The day arrived and we didn’t really know what to expect as it was our first time having a newborn shoot. But when I saw how gentle and experienced Hart was in handling my baby. I knew she was in good hands. The entire photoshoot was more like catching up with an old friend. Conversations flowed freely and Hart even managed to capture my 4yo son smiling naturally. He has a tendency to get all posey once a camera is flashed out these days. Hart made my husband and I feel totally at ease and we didn’t have to spend long getting the shots he wanted.

Needless to say the photos came out beautifully. Just the way we wanted them. Nothing pretentious. The moment captured in time. We’re definitely looking forward to more sessions with Hart in the near future.”
