Family Photoshoot in Singapore – Where Should You Do It?
Family Photoshoot in Singapore – Where Should You Do It?
When it comes to family photoshoots in Singapore, there are many different locations that you can choose from. As we all know, when it rains, it pours. When it’s dry, it’s hot and humid in tropical Singapore.
Family photoshoot in Singapore are usually done at home, in a studio, or outdoors. Each place has its own benefits and drawbacks. With some understanding of each of your family member’s circumstance, it’s easier to come to a decision on the best place to do your family photoshoot. After all, Tomato Photo started our photography business by doing family photoshoots outdoors and in client’s home in 2008 and we have first hand experience is all of them.
Family Photoshoot – Studio
Let’s start with family photoshoots in a photo studio. Studio is the most popular location of choice for family photoshoots in Singapore.
1. Photo Studio – Controlled Temperature, More Comfortable
With the hot and humid, rainy weather in Singapore, it is more comfortable to have everyone in the photo studio in a controlled cooling environment, removing the uncertainty of weather changes.
Also during the regional haze situations in 2013 & 2015, photoshoot in studios provided a much safer & comfortable setting to have kids and family photoshoots done.
2. Dedicated Studio Space Specifically for Family Photoshoots In Singapore
Studio settings gives the assurance or predictability in the type of images you’ll be expecting. It also allows the photographer to use studio lights to create the look and the mood that you’re after. The classic formal, or the lifestyle casual looks.
Tomato Photo Studio is designed specifically with our clients in mind. Our clients ranging from a few days old baby on a pram, physically challenged individuals to elderly with knees and mobility concerns and not forgetting the elderly family pets. The studio caters to small to large extended families.
3. Multiple Backdrops, Indoor and Outdoor in the comfort of studio.
With the proliferation of digital and printed backdrops, there are no shortage of backdrops bringing the outdoors in, allowing families to have outdoor looking images captured minus the heat & humidity. Its good to have options!
I love the responsiveness from the team at Tomato Photo. I had tons of questions regarding the shoot and Hazel was very prompt in her replies. Very helpful too!
During this pandemic, restrictions were finally lifted to have 20 pax in the studio and I’m glad my family did it with Hart!! He is very professional, clear with his instructions and straight to the point. We love the turnout of the photos for sure!
And lastly, we got the softcopies for viewing just 1 day after the shoot. How fast was that!!!
Overall a good experience for my family, would definitely recommend 🙂 – Jocelyn Ng, Dec 2021

Family Photoshoot – Home
Next up, let’s talk about family photoshoots at home. It’s the comfiest family environment that you know compared to other places for photoshoots.
1. Convenience
Doing a family portrait at home allows easy access to your family member’s clothes, accessories and even food should they need a snack while posing for their family photo shoot! It is weather proof with easy access to washrooms and changing rooms all within reach.
You need not need to have a logistics plan in place because the shoot will be at home and you won’t need to travel!
2. Safe & Familiar Environment for Young Kids
For young kids, home to them is their safest and most familiar place. Furthermore, the memories of the kids in their family home, where they are at ease the most makes the photoshoot more meaningful. Some families engage us to do their family photoshoots at their newly renovated home, or just before they move out of their matrimonial home so they can have beautiful memories of it.
3. Space? How Important Is it?
In Singapore, most of the apartments are surrounded with greenery. That’s why Singapore is a Garden City! There are no shortage of manicured green patches and playground in and around our living spaces.
If space is a concern, we often do a hybrid family photoshoot session that start in the home, and if weather and kids permit, we move on to the gardens, pool or playground around the common areas within walking distance. You’ll be surprised at what Hart can achieve in a home shoot (see more below).
I engaged Tomato Photo for a family photo session after looking at various studios’ portfolio and styles. I chose Tomato Photo because the studio’s style and approach fits perfectly as to what I was looking for.
We are really happy that Hart was so friendly and chatty! He was great with my 8 month old son who was experiencing separation anxiety! We wanted to take some pictures of just the adults and Hart carried my son whilst taking our picture! He even showed him the pictures from the camera and my son was so entertained by Hart. We felt really at ease and it clearly showed in the pictures.
We also loved how fast we were able to view the pictures (same day!) and made the selection really quickly despite being spoilt for choice! The highlight was being able to discuss the edit and package for the photos with Hart and he was really accommodating.
To summarise, we are really happy to have Hart and Tomato Photo for our family photo session. ☺️ – Callie, December 2021

One of the main benefits of doing a outdoor family photoshoot in Singapore is that the city is incredibly beautiful. There are many different scenic locations that you can choose from, including beaches, parks, gardens, historical precincts as well as the urban city skyline. All of our outdoor family photo shoots are done very early in the morning; or in the late afternoon for optimal weather and lighting conditions.
1. Fun Family Day Out
If you want to do it outdoors, you’ll have the advantage of being able to go for a family walk in a park or the beach while taking family pictures. The benefit of doing outdoor photoshoots for your family is that the vast landscape is your backdrop. Check out the top outdoor family photoshoot locations in Singapore!
2. Memories of Singapore
If you live in Singapore for a short period of time, you’d be interested to take some family portraits against Singapore’s iconic landmarks as memories of your time here. If you have been here long enough, you might even take annual family portraits against different landmarks that are uniquely Singapore, such as the the historical precincts, the Singapore Botanical Gardens if you spend lots of your time with your kids there; or even the many parks and beaches around the city.

Finally there is no hard and fast rules. All families are different, but there is one thing that they all have in common – the need for quality family photos.
If you’re looking for a place to take family photos in Singapore, your options are plentiful. Studio photography is great if you want an environment that can be controlled and staged exactly how you imagine it will look on the day of the shoot. Family photo shoots at home offer more flexibility, convenience and familiarity for young kids. And finally, outdoor shots provide natural light which lends itself very well to capturing special moments like children running or playing happily together at home or out in nature (although there may be restrictions based upon what’s allowed by law).

My experience with Tomato Photo has been extremely positive the entire way. We had some scheduling limitations and they were very accommodating to our last minute and odd requests.
Detailed guidance was given on what to wear, and how to prepare for the shoot. Hart is a true professional and was wonderfully superb in managing our troop of young children! We were expecting to have to bribe and coax for smiles but it was surprisingly painless and easy. We just stepped out of the way and let him do his magic. He knew all the tricks to make them smile naturally, and we are so pleased with the results. They were all like best friends by the end of the session.
The location was easy to get to with lots of parking options. Lift takes you straight to the right floor, without stairs, so it was great for the older folks. Viewing of images was done really quickly after the session too. Would highly highly recommend Hart and Tomato Photo with two thumbs up!

Sharon Yeo, December 2021
Having done out first maternity shoot with Hart of Tomato Photo, we knew we had to go back to Hart when we had our second child!
We had our reservations about having a session with a 2.5 year old toddler but Hart had everything under control and our session which went absolutely amazing!
The patience he showed with the little one when she was not co-operating being around an umfamiliar person, she slowly warmed up and eventually did not want to leave the studio after the session was over! As with our first session, Hart had understand what we wanted from the session and provided us with more than what we had expected! We cannot wait for the second newborn to come and have our newborn session with Hart!
