Home Maternity Photography @ Joo Chiat

I start venturing out to people’s home to do the maternity photography session, i think it allows for personalised images being created just for the couple.

In the past, lighting was big and cumbersome but things changed, with more and more compact professional lighting that accept variety of light modifiers that used to be only available for studio space, it makes me wonder if studio photography might be a thing in the past… Well, time will tell.

I am absolutely delighted to be able to shoot at one of the house around the corner from me which has win a major architectural award for the design. Coming from Interior and Architectural Photography background, I love to blend the two together as an addition to portrait setting.

I bought along 2x Einstein 640 plus a Profoto AcuteB2 600W and one large softbox, One medium softbox, one strip light as well as the beauty dish that allow me to create images that I had in my mind. The softboxes can be set up within minutes so there is very little time needed. To top if off, I will also bring black backdrop to do some “studio’ look images.

Here are some images I took on the day…

Gorgeous maternity photography with Trisha

Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life, the feeling carrying a new life.

I love simplicity and I love the connection between the couple.

Studio Photography session usually a better choice for maternity session mainly because it is private,  cool as well as the control in lighting to show off the new shape.

Best time for maternity session is between 33-36weeks…

Home maternity photography at East Coast with Trina

“I think this is the first / last child” is the word that I heard often when people come to book my maternity photography session. I felt privileged to be included in client’s important milestone.

Trina lives in a beautiful home with very eclectic collection of artwork and furnishing. Collection that says so much about her and her family. The boldness in declaring “I AM” an unique individual and I appreciate that.

It challenge me to create images that portray them as family and their home. I use a lot of lighting nowadays in a home shoot because I feel that it gives me the control in lighting of inside the house. There are so many places that I love but lighting might not always ideal. With control lighting, everything become possible.

My idea in using lighting is to emulate what you see  as lighting at their home… so it still gives the same “feel” to it, the only different will be the quality and control of the lighting.
