Details – Home Newborn Photography

Little newborn baby is full of details. How they curl, how they fold, the little pouchy lips, their little feet are always interesting to me.

I tend to squeeze in a few shots showing those, however, my vision of newborn photography has always be to showcase how the baby looks like in the womb. An unique way to really preserve those moment that is unreproduceable and a precious way to remember that little baby of yours.

Family Shoot at Marina Bay – Indoor & Outdoor

One of the beauty of having the family portrait shoot done at Marina Bay is the appeal of the beautiful Marina Bay area with the ultra modern cityscape, The urban look to the image as well as the comfort of aircon inside the mall. This give you the outdoor and indoor in the same location.

It was Christmas and there are lots of amazing display and light but even without the festive, Marina Bay looks amazing…

This is the second shoot with Joanne’s family and it was a very relaxing and fun experience…

As a photographer, we also need to conduct ourselves in a manner that don’t cause much public nuisance so we make the work of security guard a lot easier… respect others and others will do the same.

Give us a call 8858 0088 and have a chat to see what we can help your family in getting the best images…

Treasure the Time through Photography

Parents, Grandparents and elders have stopped me over the  years to tell me the same thing: cherish every moment. It goes too fast. One day they are little and the next, they’re not. They say it while staring fondly, wistfully, at my kids. Watching their faces, I can tell that some part of them is replaying a memory of when their  own children were small and needed them more.  This for me is the reason why I love what I do as a photographer.  I am able to help parents capture these moments that fly by in an eternal print and frame.  We can savor our memories of our young children by looking loving at an old photograph of them just being themselves.  Photographs give you that personal insight into their state of mind and capabilities at that specific time.  A photograph inspires our memory, brings back a particular smell or feeling we had in that moment and for every parent that instant insight is priceless.

Parents come back each year for that annual shoot time and time again as they recognize how the fast the special moments of their little ones childhoods fly by.  Photos help you treasure and relive these moments as you reflect back on the growth and achievements of your children over the days, months and years.

Perhaps the best quote I have heard this week is that “they are older today than yesterday and time is not slowing down.”   All we can do is preserve time and this is what Tomato Photo does best.

A Mums reflection …

As parents we are caught in this constant mental and emotional state of wanting our children to grow up so that we can see all of their achievements and then on the other hand wanting them to remain small and child like forever needing their parents.  Its this constant conundrum that we go back and fourth with that keeps us on our toes as parents.

Its for this reason that I love being a photographer.  I recently met with one of my clients who is pregnant for the second time and with this pregnancy she finds herself reflecting over and over again her firsts newborns photos.  She uses these images to try and imagine what it will be like welcoming this new baby in the family dynamic and how much she loved those first few months of bonding with her first.
This is how powerful family imagery is, it brings back raw emotions of being a parent to a newborn and it creates the perfect moment of sweet reflection and excitement for the impending future arrival.

The client revealed that reflecting back on those first newborn photos made her proud as a mother, how much she had accomplished and how much more confident she felt for the arrival of this new baby.  She even mentioned that she is looking forward to the next newborn shoot as she feels so much more relaxed about the whole experience of motherhood. With a witty joke she comment that “you always have to do for the second what you did for the first.”  Another reason that I love my job – just that the returning clients who come back and show me their new and extended family
Happy growing families are my inspiration and I can’t wait to meet this new arrival as I have so many before.” Time flies” I reminded my client, enjoy this second pregnancy and see you soon.

Toddler Photographs

Its not always easy to get your two year old to co operate but here are some quick and easy tips for your next photo shoot

Its all about the “ I see you”

For toddlers, catching their attention can be tricky. Make them laugh with squeaky toys, ideally you want to bring along their favorite toy to the photography session. Feel free to squeak the toy behind the photographer to get your little one looking into the lenses

Location, Location, Location

Toddlers are very busy little people and sometimes the idea of sitting inside a studio for hours can seem boring and frustrating to your kids. If you have high energy children then consider a fun location or park where they can feel free to run around, climb a tree or sit on a park bench, all of which makes for perfectly framed shots

The Photographer is your best friend

As an experienced photographer I am all about making the shoot into one large game. I get the toddlers to look at the camera as a game, to see if they can spot me. Creating fun little distractions like these can create natural shots that display the delight in your children’s eyes

Toddlers can be quite engaged with the camera, and have a natural curiosity. Showing them their photo after you’ve taken it usually encourages them to pose for more. Ask them to “try again” just like the one they just saw but better!

Getting to know you..
Before every shoot I spend time getting to know the family and especially toddlers. Its important to find out who their favorite toy is what they like to sing and what games makes them engaged. These are key activities that will help you to re focus them during the shoot.

Toddlers love a task. Its often when they are focused and amused that you get the best profile shoots. You can grab their personalities through the lenses and display their character with ease. I often sit the toddler down with a new toy or bike and then shot away as the magic happens

Hello Weather
Parents often worry about the weather. But this can be a photographers best distraction for any toddler. Toddlers love jumping in puddles and playing with umbrella’s. You can get some great shots by asking delighted infants to jump in puddles or open up the umbrella. There is always an opportunity to create great images through a little imagination

Make a game out of posing by asking a toddler to copy what you do. You can try silly poses at first so it’s fun, the mix them up with more natural ones. Challenge them to keep the pose for as long as possible as part of the game
